An asylum seeker has died after being flown from Manus Island to Australia for medical treatment.

The 27-year-old Sudanese male refugee, known as Faysal, sustained the injuries on Thursday and was flown to Brisbane on Friday afternoon, refugee advocates say.

He died at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital on Saturday.

The Immigration Department said he had died from injuries suffered after a fall and seizure at the Manus Regional Processing Centre.

"The man was taken to IHMS Clinic on Manus for urgent treatment. He was then airlifted to Australia for further medical care," a statement issued on Saturday afternoon said.

"The department is not aware of any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and expresses its sympathies to his family and friends."

Refugee advocates have claimed Faysal had suffered numerous blackouts and collapses over past months.
