Israeli police and immigration officers arrest African asylum seekers protesting in an outdoor camp near the border with Egypt.

Hundreds of African asylum seekers in Israel have taken part in a three day sit in near the Egyptian border to protest against the conditions under which they're being held.

The asylum seekers are living in the Holot camp and they say it's a harsh and inhuman facility.

Tens of thousands of people from Eritrea and Sudan have found their way into Israel in recent years with the Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu describing them as illegal infiltrators.

Late last year, the Israeli parliament passed a law allowing the asylum seekers to be held in what it calls open facilities until they're deported or agree to return to their home country.

A group based in the United States is trying to highlight their plight in the American media.

John Stauffer is the president of the America Team for Displaced Eritreans.

He told Greg Dyett he has problems with Israel's description of the Holot camp as an open facility.
