At least 10 people have been killed and eight injured in south-west Uganda on Monday when a lorry carrying merchants and food crashed into a rail embankment.
The truck was carrying traders and bags of potatoes to a weekly market in the town of Kisoro when it crashed.
"We suspect it to be brake failure," Uganda police traffic director Charles Ssebambulidde said.
The incident occurred in Uganda's mountainous southwest near the Rwandan and Congolese borders, where serious vehicle accidents are common. Police blame the accidents on drink-driving, the poor mechanical condition of the vehicles and corrupt traffic officers who allow unsafe vehicles on the roads.
