Struggling junior iron ore miner Atlas Iron has appointed turnaround specialist Eugene Davis as chairman to replace Cheryl Edwardes.

Mr Davis, who was appointed to the company's board in May as part of a financial restructuring agreement, is the founder of a consulting firm specialising in turnaround management.

Atlas secured relief from its debt woes in April after shareholders approved a debt-to-equity swap deal, allowing the company to stave off the threat of voluntary administration.
