Atlassian pairs with NSW govt on tech hub

The NSW government will partner with tech giant Atlassian to create a technology precinct in Sydney.

A mini-Silicon Valley is set for Sydney after Australian tech giant Atlassian announced it will join with the NSW government in a project expected to create thousands of jobs.

The government will support the creation of a technology precinct between Central Station and Eveleigh, Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced on Tuesday.

A task force has been created to design the area, which Atlassian co-founder Scott Farquhar hopes will attract the next generation of tech industry leaders.

"If you look at every successful innovation hub in the world, from Silicon Valley to Tel Aviv, they all have a centre of gravity, a place the start-up community calls home," Mr Farquhar said.

"I'm delighted that now our tech community will have the same opportunity to point to a map and call it home."

The government expects the initiative to create 10,000 new jobs by 2036.
