More than a year a half after a man was shot in the back in Sydney's southwest, police have charged another man with attempted murder over the shooting.

The 24-year-old victim was approached from behind and shot in Prairiewood in July 2016. He suffered serious spinal injuries and spent a considerable period of time in hospital, police said.

A 26-year-old was arrested in Wolli Creek last Friday and has been accused of shooting with the intent to murder. He has been refused bail and is due to face Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday.
