Audio: Is Harmony Day just tokenism?

Is setting aside one day a year to celebrate cultural diversity in Australia any more than tokenism? SBS Radio's Kristina Kukolja reports.

Since 1999, Australia has set aside one day a year for a series of events that celebrate the country's cultural diversity.

Called Harmony Day, it's March the 21st, which is also the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

This year, the slogan is 'Everyone belongs'.

But there are some who say these words don't resonate with all segments of Australian society, and questions are being asked whether setting aside one day a year to promote harmony is any more than tokenism.
