Augusta on tornado watch at the Masters

Augusta National called a halt to play and evacuated spectators at 3pm local time on Monday (5am Tuesday AEDT) with a tornado warning issued for Georgia.

Monday practice rounds have been suspended at the Masters at Augusta National with a tornado warning issued for the state of Georgia.

Augusta National Golf Club called a halt to play and evacuated spectators just before 3pm local time on Monday (5am Tuesday AEDT).

"Play will be suspended shortly for the day, based on new weather information," Masters officials said in a statement.

The US National Weather Service declared the state of Georgia under 'tornado watch' for six hours from 2pm (4pm Tuesday AEDT).

The Australians who managed to get in at least nine holes of practice on Monday morning included Marc Leishman and world No.3 Jason Day, while 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott, veteran Rod Pampling and amateur world No.1 Curtis Luck didn't make it out to the before practice was suspended.
