Aussie boxer loses title to Eubank Jnr

Renold Quinlan may have lost his IBO super-middleweight title in London to Chris Eubank Junior, but he earned the respect of the British boxing public with a gutsy display at London Olympia.

Derided as an easybeat for the highly-rated Eubank, Quinlan was rated as 25-1 underdog to defend the title he won by beating Daniel Geale to claim the title in October last year.

However, the early knock-out predicted by many proved to be wrong as the 27-year-old from Kempsey, in only his 13th fight as a professional mixed it with his talented opponent.

Despite being on the end of some wonderful combination punching from Eubank, Quinlan on numerous occasion found a way to roll off the ropes and hurt the Englishman with his stinging jab.

The fight looked over at the end of the sixth with Eubank unfurling a flurry of punches after trapping the New South Welshman on the ropes, but he couldn't find a way to bring down Quinlan who survived until the bell.

It was a similar story in the eighth where Quinlan wore several venomous upper cuts to the head, but still managed to to walk away, much to the frustration of Eubank, whose showboating almost proved his undoing when he caught to the the head after he lowered his hands.

But the punishment started to take it's toll and eventually Foster stepped in and spared him any further punishment, despite his protestation that he could continue.

Eubank, (24-1) who has been tipped to be a world champion since his amateur days, entered the ring in very theatrical manner.

Posturing on the apron of the ring in his gold shorts, before jumping over the ropes and into the ring.

Quinlan's belt was carried into the ring by close mate Albert Kelly, the former Cronulla and Gold Coast NRL star, now playing for Hull FC in the UK.

"He was very hard," said Eubank.

"It was like hitting concrete, full respect to him he gave me a real hard fight. But this is just the start for me."
