Australians are turning to high-speed internet in droves and nearly half the population is plugged into the internet, according to new figures.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics' Internet Activity Survey collects details from internet service providers (ISPs) across Australia.
At the end of June 2010, there were 9.6 million active internet subscribers in Australia and nearly 92 per cent of those connections are non dial-up.

Nearly three-quarters of Australians, or 71 per cent, have download speeds of 1.5Mbps or greater.
Mobile wireless (excluding mobile handset connections) was the fastest growing technology in internet access, increasing to 3.5 million in June 2010 - a 21.7 per cent increase from December 2009.
Taking advantage of the surge in users, ISPs more than tripled in a year, surging from 109 to 372.
