The stage is set for shining light James Connor to step out of Matthew Mitcham's shadow at the Rio Olympic diving test event.
Just weeks after Mitcham's retirement, the 20-year-old Connor has emerged as the key for an Australian diving team, desperate to make the most of their last chance to book Rio Olympic berths.
Australia have qualified for every diving event to be held at the Rio Games except for three - the men's and women's 10m platform synchro and men's 3m springboard synchro.
The outdoor Rio test event starting on Friday will provide their final opportunity ahead of August's Olympics.
A top-seven finish in Rio will secure an Olympic spot for Australia.
The pressure is on diving prodigy Connor to produce something special in the wake of Olympic champion Mitcham's retirement.
Connor will combine with veteran Grant Nel in the 3m synchro and with Glasgow Commonwealth Games gold medallist Domonic Bedggood in the 10m event.
Connor is a late replacement in the 10m synchro for retired Beijing Olympic champion Mitcham.
He is no stranger to the limelight but the Rio test event will provide his first chance to take centre stage.
At 15, Connor was the youngest Australian male to compete in a Commonwealth Games 10m event at the 2010 Delhi competition.
And at the 2012 London Olympics, he was the youngest member of the Australian diving team, narrowly missing the 10m semi-finals.
Australia have put their faith in team captain Melissa Wu and London Olympic silver medallist Brittany Broben to nab a women's 10m synchro Rio berth.
Australian diving coach Chava Sobrino opted for the experienced duo over young guns Teju Williamson and Taneka Kovchenko.
Sobrino was confident his Australian team would rise to the challenge that awaited at the Rio test event that ends on Wednesday.
"I think Australia for a few years has had a very strong team with really good, strong morale," he said.
Australia will finalise their Rio Olympic team line-up at May's national selection trials in Melbourne.
Australian diving team for Rio test event: Maddison Keeney (3m springboard), Esther Qin (3m springboard, 3m synchro), Melissa Wu (10m platform, 10m synchro), Emily Meaney (10m platform), Samantha Mills (3m synchro), Brittany Broben (10m synchro), James Connor (3m springboard, 10m platform, 3m synchro, 10m synchro), Grant Nel (3m springboard, 3m synchro), Domonic Bedggood (10m platform, 10m synchro).
