Australia's civilian experts will join European Union crisis teams in Iraq and other countries as part of a new agreement.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and EU Commission vice president Federica Mogherini on Wednesday announced Australia will deploy civilians as part of the EU's expert crisis response teams.

"We share a common vision of the outcome in Iraq, we want to give people a stable, democratic Iraq," Ms Bishop told reporters on Wednesday.

The pair met in Sydney and discussed negotiations for a free trade deal and increased co-operation in the Pacific.

Ms Mogherini said the EU and Australia would also be working together to increase their influence in the Indo-Pacific region.
