Following a NITV News report of an Australian man being detained in a Saudi jail since November 2011, a spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade sent this statement:
"We confirm the arrest of 25-year-old Australian man from Western Australia in Saudi Arabia.
The man is on trial for alleged terrorism-related offences and is detained in a prison outside Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Consular officials from the Australian Embassy in Riyadh have been providing consular assistance to the man since his arrest in November 2011.
Consular staff in Canberra are in regular contact with the man's family in Australia. The Embassy in Riyadh is also assisting a 23-year-old man from Western Australia whose Australian passport is currently held by Saudi authorities.
