Australian golf prodigy Cameron Davis faces a massive step up in class this week when he tees up on the US PGA Tour just three weeks after making his professional debut.
However, the 21-year-old from Sydney has one big factor in his favour for his US tour debut - great recent memories of the golf course.
It was Davis' blistering form at Mexico's El Camaleon Golf Club when leading Australia to its 19-stroke victory in the world amateur teams championship in September that earned him an invitation to the US tour's Mayakoba Classic at the same venue.
Davis was the only player to shoot all four rounds in the 60s on the Greg Norman-designed course as he compiled scores of 67-66-68-68 to reach 17-under-par and claim the individual honours.
It was a performance which helped prompt Davis to turn pro, making his play-for-pay debut at the $110,000 Queensland Open where he tied 13th.
This week's US tour event not only has a much stronger field, it boasts $US7 million in prizemoney.
For Davis it is also the chance to get an early taste of his ultimate goal.
"The tournament in Mexico is a PGA Tour event and it's already a chance to experience what it may be like if I get to where I want to go," Davis told Fairfax last month.
"That was a bit of a surprise because I didn't realise the tournament I won would get me a start there and to have all these opportunities straight after I turn pro is a pretty awesome thing to happen."
Davis is joined in the field by fellow Australians Marc Leishman, Steve Bowditch, Greg Chalmers and Cameron Smith.
Should he make the cut, Davis will also face a hurried trip back home to Sydney early next week to get ready for the Australian Open at Royal Sydney starting next Thursday.
