Australia's Toby Price has finished 19th in stage 10 of the Dakar Rally, more than 50 minutes off the pace, to drop back to fifth overall.
Price's countryman Rodney Faggotter was 13th in stage 10 to be 20th overall while Scott Britnell is 61st of the 63 competitors on two wheels.
Matthias Walkner grabbed the lead from Frenchman Adrien van Beveren -- who crashed out during the 373km special stage between Salta and Belen, Argentina -- with the Austrian dominating on Tuesday.
Yamaha rider Van Beveren was evacuated by helicopter after a high-speed accident three kilometres from the finish.
Race organisers said he had broken his right collarbone and injured his thorax and spine.
In the car's category, reigning champion Stephane Peterhansel won the stage to reduce teammate Carlos Sainz's overall lead to 50 minutes.
The Frenchman's third stage win moved him to second -- with four days remaining before the finish in Cordoba -- while two-times winner Nasser al-Attiyah slipped to third.
Sainz was still smarting from a 10-minute penalty applied on Monday for an alleged collision with Dutch quadbike rider Kees Koolen. Peugeot have said they intend to appeal the sanction.
Wednesday's 11th stage is from Belen to Fiambala and Chilecito.
