Australian skier Samantha Wells has claimed her first ever podium finish at an Aerials World Cup event, finishing second at Deer Valley in USA.

Wells narrowly missed gold by just 0.04 points from China's Yang Yu after pulling off a back full-double full in the final.

It was the first time Wells had performed the jump in competition.

"I just screamed out loud when I landed," she said.

"I just kept going after I finished, and the finish area is quite small, that I actually ended up running into the fence, but I didn't care."

Fellow Australian Danielle Scott finished one position outside of the medals in fourth, while compatriot Renee McElduff was ranked eighth.
