Young Australian Cameron Smith faces another restless night before playing off for a maiden US PGA Tour title and million-dollar payday alongside Swedish teammate Jonas Blixt in New Orleans.
Smith and Blixt finished tied at 27-under-par with American pair Scott Brown and Kevin Kisner at the Zurich Classic, the tour's first team tournament in 36 years.
But only after Kisner holed a stunning 27-metre chip shot for eagle on the 18th to deny them victory in regulation.
Fading light following six hours of weather delay due to thunderstorms meant the sudden-death playoff had to be held over until Monday (Tuesday AEST).
If Smith and Blixt can win both players will earn $1.02 million and will be accredited with an official win, bringing a two-year exemption on tour as well as entry to the Players Championship and PGA Championship.
The 23-year-old Smith and 33-year-old Swede Blixt led by a stroke heading into the final hole after five back-nine birdies under the final round's best ball format
Kisner's eagle heroics then forced Smith to make a short birdie putt just to remain in contention for his big PGA Tour breakthrough.
"We knew we had to have it. I knew they were going to make birdie, so all I was trying to do was make sure I didn't leave it short," Kisner said of his chip.
"When I hit the flag, I said, 'don't you come out of there'."
Despite Smith and Blixt taking a four-shot lead on Saturday, the Americans led for most of Sunday after recording birdies on their first eight holes.
But Queenslander Smith, ranked 112 in the world, hit his straps with seven birdies from the seventh hole.
Smith and Blixt shot a final round eight-under 64 while Kisner and Brown had a 60 and the two teams were four strokes clear of third-placed Americans Kevin Tway and Kelly Kraft (61).
