Aussie sprinter O'Hanlon king of the world

Evan O'Hanlon has won gold in the 100m at the world para-athletics championships to reclaim the title of the fastest athlete with cerebral palsy.

Australian Evan O'Hanlon has won gold at the world para-athletics championships in London to reclaim the title of the fastest athlete with cerebral palsy.

After his unbeaten streak in the 100m T38 came to a crashing end at the Rio Olympics, O'Hanlon was desperate for victory on Friday and he flashed home in a time of 11.07sec to pip China's Jianwen Huin a photo finish.

"Coming into these world championships, it's the most pressure I've ever been under," the 29-year-old from NSW said.

"Every other time in my career, I knew I could win from the start line, but after coming second in Rio, I had to prove that I am number one."

The victory vaulted O'Hanlon alongside Paralympic great Neil Fuller as Australia's leading medallist at the world para-athletics championships, with 11.

"To be able to follow in the footsteps of a great man like Neil Fuller is awesome," he said.

Joining O'Hanlon on a golden day for Australia was James Turner, who ran 54.27 in the 400m T36, to claim his second world title of the meet.

"It feels good to have another win under my belt, but it's very bittersweet because I'm quite disappointed with how I ran that race," Turner said.

"In that last 50m, I had nothing left in my legs, I was stumbling towards that finish line, which wasn't a good feeling at all."

Dual Paralympian Torita Blake, who carried a hamstring injury in the second half of the race, took bronze in the 400m.

Wheelchair racer Rheed McCracken was third in the 400m T34 to add to Australia's medal count.

Meanwhile, Sarah Edmiston was seventh in the women's F44 shot put, with a throw of 8.04m.
