Aussie T20 captain to push White cause

Australian Twenty20 captain Aaron Finch says he will push Cameron White's cause after the veteran gave a reminder of his talents in the Renegades' BBL win.

The forgotten man of Australian cricket - Cameron White - gave a not-so-subtle reminder of his talents in Melbourne Renegades' seven-wicket Big Bash League win over Brisbane Heat at the Gabba on Saturday night.

And national Twenty20 captain Aaron Finch says he will ensure White's name stays in Australian selectors' memories when they finalise their 2016 Twenty20 World Cup squad.

At 32, former Bushrangers skipper White is finding it hard to even break into the Victorian Sheffield Shield side.

And the ex-national T20 captain's limited-overs days also appeared numbered when he was not offered a 2015-16 BBL contract by the Melbourne Stars despite leading them to the semi-finals for four consecutive seasons.

But Renegades captain Finch believed White still had something to offer international cricket - and few would argue after his fireworks on Renegades debut on Saturday night.

White (55 off 41 balls) shared a 111-run second-wicket stand with man-of-the-match Finch (65 off 45) to help the Renegades reel in the Heat's daunting 5-180 with three balls to spare.

White even upstaged Renegades marque opener Chris Gayle (23 off 16) despite the explosive West Indian thrashing two fours and two sixes with his custom golden bat.

Not bad for someone who had been relegated to the second-tier Futures League by Bushrangers selectors this summer.

Finch believed White could add to his 47 T20 internationals at March's World Cup in India.

"I'm not a selector but I will have a bit of a say," Finch said of White's World Cup hopes.

"I still think he has a part to play in international cricket."
