Aussie visual effects wiz misses Oscar

Australian visual effects wizard Jason Billington and his film Deepwater Horizon was not expected to challenge Disney's big three nominees.

Australian Jason Billington has missed out on the visual effects Oscar for his work on the Gulf of Mexico oil rig disaster film Deepwater Horizon.

Disney's The Jungle Book won the award at Sunday's ceremony.

Disney dominated the category, with the studio's blockbusters The Jungle Book, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Dr Strange taking three of the five slots.
