Aussies attempt Greenland crossing record

Two Gold Coast adventurers are aiming to beat a 42-day record for the fastest crossing of Greenland, which was set in 2010.

TWO GOLD COAST ADVENTURERS WILL ATTEMPT TO TRAVERSE GREENLAND IN RECORD TIME:

* Geoff Wilson, 46, and son-in-law Simon Goodburn, 27, aiming to become first Australians to cross Greenland from south to north.

* Journey has been named Nansen's Crossing in honour of Fridtjof Nansen, the first person to cross Greenland, completing the journey from the east coast to the west coast in 1888.

* 2700km trip starts at Greenland's southern tip and ends at the Inuit town of Qanaaq.

* Pair aiming to beat the 42-day record for the fastest crossing of Greenland set in 2010.

* They hope to break the record for the furthest distance travelled in 24 hours by kite power of 595 kilometres.

* Journey will be unsupported, meaning pair will need to each tow a sled weighing 150kg with their supplies.

* Average low temperatures on the the route are around -30 degrees Celsius.

* Pair hoping to raise $100,000 for breast cancer charity the Jane McGrath Foundation.
