Australian Egyptians are celebrating the resignation of Egypt's former president Hosni Mubarak, gathering in Sydney and Melbourne to share their jubilation, SBS's Robert McClean reports.

"This is the beginning of Egypt's modern history," proclaimed one rally leader to a gathering of about 200 people in Sydney.

The demonstrators also marked a minute of silence to remember those killed during riots that erupted in Egypt as police clashed with protesters demanding Mubarak resign.
