Australia were eliminated by a rampant Fiji in the quarter-finals before being relegated to seventh place at the Vancouver rugby sevens.
Australia were mauled 28-10 by the Rio Olympic champions Fiji, who prevailed four-tries-to-two in a clinical display on Sunday (Monday AEDT) at BC Place Stadium.
The youthful Australians were then beaten 21-0 by New Zealand in their fifth-place semi-final to end the tournament outside the top four for the fifth time this season.
It was a disappointing North America campaign, with the Australians claiming sixth in Las Vegas a week ago following last month's confidence-boosting fourth placing in Sydney.
Coach Andy Friend lamented a lack of experience across his squad.
"Both games today were similar in that we created opportunities but in those key moments of execution we weren't able to finish it off," Friend said.
"It's very frustrating that this is where we are at as a team at the moment. We just need to keep working hard and make sure we get better than that.
"We would have liked to have gone better here in Canada, to give us the confidence going into Hong Kong.
"After a good showing in Sydney and a better showing in Vegas, I was hoping we'd go better this weekend so it is disappointing."
The World Series next moves to Hong Kong for the seventh leg starting on April 7.
Australia started the Vancouver tournament with wins against France (12-7) and Japan (36-7) and a loss against the United States (29-5) on Saturday before losing both matches on Sunday.
Championship leaders South Africa were beaten 19-7 by England in the final, while Fiji took bronze with a 28-24 victory over the United States in the third-place play-off.
