Australia's experience with pink balls and day-night Test cricket in Adelaide offers a massive advantage over England, batsman Peter Handscomb says.

The two nations meet for the first time in a day-night Test in Adelaide from Saturday with Handscomb believing the Australians hold the whip-hand.

"It's huge favourite for us," he told reporters on Thursday.

"We have played with the pink Kookaburra now for a long time and we have seen it change over time and understand what it does do, especially here in Adelaide playing a few games.

"So it's a good advantage for us and England haven't played many games or trained much against the pink Kooka, so it's a different ball game for them."

Australia has won the previous two day-night pink-ball Tests in Adelaide, against New Zealand in 2015 and South Africa last year.

"There seems to be a real focus on the night session," said Handscomb, who made a half-century on his Test debut in Adelaide against the South Africans.

"Whether that is the atmosphere livening up the grass on the wicket or whether the ball actually swings a little bit more, we're still trying to figure that out.

"But if you're an in batter during that time you can actually still make a lot of runs; you can bat well."
