Aussies have dedicated their afternoon cuppa and biscuit to slain bride-to-be Stephanie Scott on what would have been her 28th birthday.

After school cleaner Vincent Stanford was on Thursday sentenced to life in prison for her rape and murder, Ms Scott's mother, Merrilyn, urged people to celebrate her life.

"We will be having a cup of tea and a Mint Slice biscuit at three (on Friday). Please join us," she said.

Ms Scott's sister, Kim, on Friday posted a photo of a cup of tea - the slain woman's favourite beverage - and a packet of Mint Slice biscuits alongside photos of the family and a note saying ""Have a cuppa for our Stephanie ... Forever 26".

The town of Leeton jumped to the call, with supermarkets telling AAP many locals had rushed to buy the sweet treats and some of the town's cafes had dedicated afternoon tea to Ms Scott.

Twitter and Instagram users did the same in posts tagged #cuppaforsteph and #StephanieScott.

Her friends and family exclaimed "yes" in the Griffith courthouse when Supreme Court Justice Robert Allan Hulme sentenced Stanford to die in prison this week.

"I am satisfied that this is a case of murder that clearly falls within the worst category," he said.

Mrs Scott, who wore a yellow brooch - her daughter's favourite colour - appealed to media to let their family mourn in private.

"We need to be kind to ourselves and let the music and fun back in," she said.

"We need to be able to fade from public view, to mourn our beautiful girl and work our way through our grief."
