Aussies have had Ashes too long: Elwiss

Allrounder Georgia Elwiss says England cannot afford to look past their more immediate opposition with a home Ashes showdown against old foes Australia looming.

Allrounder Georgia Elwiss says England are determined to recapture the Ashes in July after the painful lessons of last year's World T20 final loss to Australia.

England missed an opportunity to regain the urn after drawing the multi-format Ashes series in late 2017 before suffering a galling eight-wicket thrashing by the Aussies in the ICC T20 final in Antigua in November.

Elwiss says they will channel their frustration in forthcoming tours to India and Sri Lanka and then focus on hosting Australia at home.

Despite being left out of the England squad that travelled to the Caribbean, the 27-year-old - who played for Melbourne Stars during the recent Women's Big Bash League - said they'd since watched the final as a group and identified changing moments in the game.

"We've definitely not swept it under the carpet and we're going to use it as fuel and motivation to propel us forward," she said.

"We're very clear as a side we want those Ashes back; we always say the Australians have had them for too long.

"We know that they're an excellent side but we're coming up against India in the next couple of weeks and we know that they're an excellent side as well."

England take on India at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium in three ODIs later this month before travelling to Guwahati for three T20s and then on to Sri Lanka.
