It was a tough day in the NBA for Australia with Joe Ingles and Brock Motum getting cut.

Ingles was a casualty when Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers trimmed his squad on Saturday to 15 players on the eve of the start of the NBA regular season, the OC Register reported.

Ingles was in a two-way battle with three-year NBA veteran guard Jared Cunningham for the Clippers' last roster spot.

Cunningham impressed against the Golden State Warriors in a recent pre-season game with 23 points when Clipper guard Jordan Farmar suffered a back injury and starting point guard Chris Paul was rested.

Ingles saw few minutes in the pre-season and scored just five points in 37 minutes of play over five games.

It was thought forward Motum had made the Utah Jazz's 2014-15 squad alongside Boomer teammate Dante Exum when the team cut its roster to 15 players earlier in the week.

However, the team decided to go to 14 players.

Jazz head coach Quin Snyder told AAP he was a fan of Motum's, but the ultimate decision would come down to the team's management.

Motum appeared in just one pre-season game against the LA Lakers, but was impressive with seven points, two rebounds and one assist in 11 minutes.

Motum and Ingles both played in Europe before attempting to break into the NBA.
