Aussies search for momentum ahead of Ashes

All-rounder Marcus Stoinis says Australia can build momentum ahead of a home summer in the two remaining ODIs against India.

Australia will desperately try to regain some momentum in their two one-day international dead rubbers with India as a worrying losing tally mounts ahead of the Ashes.

There is a stark contrast between the two sides' formlines heading into Thursday's fourth ODI in Bangalore.

The series is over after India swept aside Australia with ease in the first three matches, leaving the possibility of an embarrassing whitewash hanging over the tourists' heads.

Since losing to Australia 4-1 in January 2016, India have built an imposing record in the 50-over game winning 22 of their next 27 matches.

Australia have lost 11 ODIs in a row away from home, with the exception of two washouts, albeit with eight of those losses coming against South Africa and India.

They've won five of their last 14 Tests with three of those wins a 3-0 clean sweep of Pakistan during the last Australian summer.

While they may be dead rubbers, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis believes a form reversal is important ahead of hosting the Ashes.

"Two games left in this series and we've got a big chance to start some momentum for the summer," Stoinis said.

"All the focus is on that really for the team."

The 28-year-old doesn't believe the players to find extra spark despite their 50-run loss in Indore confirming the series' result.

"It's still quite a young group," Stoinis said.

"There's a lot of players that have a lot to play for and playing for your country you don't need a lot of motivation."

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa is likely to replace Ashton Agar with the left-armer in Australia having his broken finger assessed by a specialist.

While part-time wicketkeeper Peter Handscomb failed in Indore, he should get another chance to prove he can replace Matthew Wade who was axed after a lean trot with the bat.

India could tinker with their XI, but aside from Zampa it's difficult to see Australia making any changes.

Australia have been beaten without being thrashed in India, which is giving hope to the team, Stoinis said.

"We're taking encouragement from being in India, playing in their conditions and having three opportunities to win those games," he said.
