Rush came up short in his bid for a Globe for The King's Speech with the best supporting actor award going to Welsh actor Christian Bale for The Fighter.
Weaver was nominated in the best supporting actress category for her chilling performance as the mother of a Melbourne crime family in Animal Kingdom, but the Globe went to The Fighter's Melissa Leo.

In the TV categories another Aussie, Toni Collette, for United States of Tara, lost the best actress in a comedy TV series gong to The Big C star, Laura Linney.
Adelaide-born Sia Furler, nominated with Christina Aguilera for writing the song Bound to You in the musical Burlesque, also missed out on a Golden Globe.
The best original song in a motion picture award went to Diane Warren for her Burlesque song, Haven't Seen The Last of Me.

The Globes continue at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
