Australians feel uncomfortable about former prime minister Kevin Rudd's idea of a big Australia, former NSW premier Bob Carr says.
Mr Carr, a long-time critic of expanded immigration, was appointed to a population advisory panel by the federal government, shortly before the election was called.
Asked about Mr Rudd's advocacy of a big Australia, Mr Carr criticised the former prime minister's support of Australia's population approaching 40 million people by 2050.
"The point is the Australian people have demonstrated they are profoundly uncomfortable with that for a number of reasons," he told Sky News.
