Aust A tour venue changes after heavy rain

A one-day series involving Australia A will now take place in Bangalore because of heavy rain in Vijayawada that resulted in three games being abandoned.

Heavy rain has ruined the early stage of Australia A's tour of India, prompting organisers to shift remaining one-day games from Vijayawada to Bangalore.

The opening three matches of the one-day series, which involves Australia A, India A, India B and South Africa A, were all abandoned.

Australia A will now play on Thursday at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the venue where Australia and India squared off in an incredibly spiteful Test last year.

The final will also be held at M Chinnaswamy, on August 29, while a ground in the suburb of Alur will also be used during the tournament.

Australia coach Justin Langer and chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns are using the tour as a selection trial for the two-Test series against Pakistan that starts in early October.

The most meaningful form indicators will come during two four-day matches against India A in Vizag, which start on September 2 and 8.

But batsmen Matthew Renshaw, Travis Head, Peter Handscomb and Usman Khawaja are among the many players keen to impress in the white-ball section of the trip.

Impressive 50-over performances with bat and/or ball will boost players' hopes of taking part in Australia's World Cup defence next year.

"There's every chance a lot of these guys could be playing for Australia in the next 12 months, in the lead-up to the World Cup, so that's exciting for them and exciting for this tour," Australia A captain Head said last week.

"We haven't had a lot of success in the last 12 to 18 months in one-day cricket and we want to change that here.

"If we can have that focus on winning, I think guys will perform and they'll find themselves in the Australian cricket team."
