Australia's ambassador to Sweden Gerald Thomson has taken home an antler after winning in a reindeer race in northern Sweden.

Australia's ambassador to Sweden has slayed the opposition to win a reindeer race - and an antler for first prize.

Gerald Thomson had to lie down on a sled behind a reindeer in the race against eight other contestants at Jokkmokk market in Lapland on the weekend.

The market runs for three days and attracts around 40,000 visitors.
