Aust award nominees provide inspiration

Nominees for the four Australian of the Year award categories have provided some words of inspiration ahead of Australia Day.

INSPIRATION FROM AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS NOMINEES:

On children:

""I really want to inspire young people to get outside and explore and have an adventure and build some resilience through doing that. It's not the cure for cancer, but I think it's really important for young people to be inspired by adventurers and have their own." - DR RICHARD HARRIS (SA)

On Australia:

"Australia is the absolutely best place in the world. We've got all these opportunities available to us, and you're only going to make the most of your potential if you grasp those opportunities and run with them." - CRAIG CHALLEN (WA)

On reconciliation:

"It's time to actually come together and discuss those things as Aboriginal people and as Australians. We're grown up enough now to have those conversations." - MICHAEL LONG (NT).

On equality:

"It's really important that we bring men and boys into the discussion about gender equality across our workplaces, across our homes, our domestic spheres, as well as in leadership, in our politics and our representation." - VIRGINIA HAUSSEGGER (ACT).

On motivation:

"I hope to say to people that there are no limitations to what they can do, if you want to do something you can do it if you believe in yourself." - ELENI GLOUFTSIS (SA)
