Aust bag two gold at IPC swimming worlds

Matthew Cowdrey has continued his domination of the men's 100m freestyle S9 with a gold medal win at the IPC world swimming championships in Canada.

Australia's greatest Paralympian Matthew Cowdrey has added another gold to his record medal tally, winning the men's 100m freestyle S9 final on the opening night of the IPC world swimming championships in Canada.

Monday's victory was Australia's first at the Montreal meet, finishing in 55.33secs ahead of two compatriots - 15-year-old debutant Rowan Crothers in third (57.17) and Brenden Hall (57.66) in fourth.

One of his pet events, Cowdrey has dominated the 100m race since 2004 with Paralympic gold at three consecutive Games.

The 24-year-old already boasts 23 Paralympic medals - 13 of them gold - and six world championship titles after the last meet in 2010.

Australian chandler swimmer Daniel Fox won the team's second gold of the night, coming back from fourth midway through the 200m freestyle S14 final to clock 1:58.45 - just 0.03 of a second shy of his world record time.
