An Australian film has won best documentary at the British Film Institute awards for showing the impact of a deadly avalanche on Mount Everest's Sherpa community.
At the London awards ceremony on Friday night director Jennifer Peedom said she hoped the film would shine a light on an overlooked and exploited community.
Her film chronicles the impact of last year's avalanche that killed 16 Sherpa guides and strained relations between Sherpas and disappointed western climbers and tour operators.
Ms Peedom said her film crew set out to follow an Everest expedition from the Sherpa point of view.
"What we never anticipated was that the worst disaster in the history of the mountain would unfold while we were filming.
"So our story changed and we felt a responsibility to continue and tell the story of those tragic events that happened while we were there and in many ways changed the Everest industry."
The film won the Grierson award for best documentary.
