Aust Google chief to head digital at ANZ

Google's managing director in Australia, Maile Carnegie, will take charge of digital services at the ANZ bank in July.

The managing director of Google in Australia and New Zealand since 2013, Maile Carnegie, will join the ANZ bank to take charge of its digital banking.

Ms Carnegie, who will start with the bank in July, is tasked with the development and delivery of digital services at ANZ, including digital projects, innovation and strategic relationships with the fintech sector.

"Reflecting digital's importance to ANZ's performance, Maile will also have shared responsibility for the financial results of the bank's Australian and New Zealand divisions," ANZ said in a statement on Tuesday.

ANZ chief executive Shayne Elliott said the appointment of Ms Carnegie recognised that digital services were a central driver of revenue growth.

"I am incredibly pleased to have Maile join us," Mr Elliott said.

"Her experience at Google, her track record in building brands and business in Australia and in Asia, and her leadership skills make her uniquely qualified to lead ANZ's digital transformation," he said.

Prior to joining Google, Ms Carnegie was managing director for personal care and household cleaning products supplier Proctor & Gamble in Australia and New Zealand. Her career at Proctor & Gamble in various roles stretched over more than 20 years.
