A Canadian-based dark web drug trafficking operation shipping packages of fentanyl via mail and express shipping couriers to Australia, the US and Europe has been shut down, Canadian authorities said.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police joined forces with the Australian Federal Police, US Drug Enforcement Agency and other agencies in a global operation dubbed "Project E-Neophile" to monitor a Canadian couple in Kelowna, British Columbia.
The 35-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were arrested for allegedly using the dark web to find customers for the highly-potent opioid pain medication.
A surveillance operation allegedly observed the couple mailing packages and using express shipping couriers.
"As many as 25 packages suspected of containing fentanyl or carfentanil, destined for Canadian, American, European and Australian cities, were intercepted by authorities," RCMP Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey said.
The couple was arrested and face potential charges, the RCMP said.
