Aust ready for Trump or Clinton: Bishop

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says the Australian government is ready regardless of whether Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton wins the US presidential race.

Whatever is the result of the United States presidential election, Australia is ready, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says.

Ms Bishop told a meeting of Liberal and National MPs in Canberra on Tuesday the outcome matters enormously, but Australia will continue to be a reliable ally no matter who wins.

The government is ready for either a Trump or a Clinton administration, she said.
