Aust tops nuclear security index

Australia has topped the Nuclear Security Index with Foreign Minister Julie Bishop reiterating a commitment to safe nuclear use around the world.

Australia has been ranked the most nuclear secure country in the world for the third time in a row.

The Nuclear Security Index, released biennially, ranked Australia top in security against nuclear theft and second for protection against sabotage.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said in a statement on Friday the ranking demonstrated a commitment to nuclear security treaties, adding Australia was focused on ensuring the safe use of nuclear around the world.
