Aust trainer Lewis in boxing Hall of Fame

Veteran Australian trainer Johnny Lewis has joined his former charges Jeff Fenech and Kostya Tszyu in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Johnny Lewis, Australia's most successful trainer of professional boxers, has joined his old charges Jeff Fenech and Kostya Tszyu in the prestigious International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Lewis has trained several world champions, foremost amongst them three-division belt winner Fenech and Russian-born former multi light welterweight world title holder Tszyu, who relocated to Australia when he turned professional.

They are among a handful of people with Australian connections to be inducted into the IBHOF, which is based in Canastota, New York.

That list also includes legendary middleweight Les Darcy and featherweight Young Griffo.

The boxers inducted alongside Lewis this year were former cruiserweight and heavyweight world champion Evander Holyfield, legendary Mexican three-division world champion Marco Antonio Barrera and the late Johnny Tapia, who also won titles at three different weights.

This year's inductions were done at the IBHOFs Hall of Fame weekend, which concluded on Monday Australian time.
