Canberra's Blake Austin could play for the Raiders just seven days after suffering a game-ending ankle injury.

The five-eighth trained with the NRL club on Wednesday in a bid to prove his fitness for Sunday's game against ladder-leaders St George Illawarra.

Austin has been named in the starting side for the clash after scans on Monday revealed his injury wasn't as bad as first suspected.

The 27-year-old failed to play any further role in the loss to Cronulla after leaving the field immediately after scoring the Raiders' second try of the match.

Canberra didn't score after Austin was sidelined as the Sharks pulled off a 24-16 comeback victory.

Star Raiders winger Nick Cotric revealed Austin was a genuine chance to take on the Dragons in the northern NSW town of Mudgee.

"He trained at the start of the session and he seemed pretty good but it depends how he feels," Cotric said.

"It's up to (coach) Ricky (Stuart) if he picks him."

Stuart hasn't tinkered with his 11th-placed side, with Sam Williams the only change on the bench in his return from injury.

He will slot straight into the No.6 jersey should Austin not come up.

Williams hasn't played since injuring his knee in round five.

Shannon Boyd will take his place in the Raiders' forward pack despite his four-year deal with Gold Coast being announced on Wednesday.

The Australian representative will finish the season in the nation's capital before heading north to play for the Titans from next year.
