Australia, Alibaba to sign goods deal

Malcolm Turnbull will witness the signing of a deal to get more Australian goods onto the hugely successful Alibaba website.

A new deal with China-based global e-commerce giant Alibaba aims to get more Australian products sold via the company's website.

Fresh from attending the G20 summit, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will visit the Alibaba headquarters in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou on Tuesday where he will witness the signing by Austrade of an agreement with Alibaba.

The Alibaba market has more than 430 million users and takes 12.7 billion orders each year.

Alibaba founder Jack Ma has been the corporate face of the G20 summit, representing the future of the Chinese economy.

The G20 summit, which wrapped up on Monday night, agreed to a "blueprint on innovative growth", which host President Xi Jinping said was a centrepiece of the global leaders' meeting.

The blueprint commits G20 members to structural reforms, innovation, the digital economy and advanced manufacturing to generate new jobs and growth.

Mr Turnbull wants innovation and making better use of the internet to be the hallmark of his prime ministership.

With cyber security a key issue for the G20 summit, Mr Turnbull discussed the leaking of submarine contractor DCNS information - relating to India's Scorpene project - at a meeting with French President Francois Hollande on Tuesday night.

President Hollande said the leak was unacceptable and Australia, which has awarded its future submarine contract to DCNS, would be updated on the results of an investigation.

Mr Turnbull said the most damaging vulnerability in computer systems was "warmware" - company or government insiders who go rogue.
