Australia helping PNG volcano evacuees

Australia has provide tarps and water containers to Papua New Guinean volcano eruption evacuees.

Australia is providing assistance to 1500 Papua New Guineans evacuated from islands following a volcano eruption.

A volcano on Kadovar Island, 24 kilometres north of the mainland, began erupting 10 days ago.

That prompted the evacuation of 590 Kadovar residents to the nearby island of Blup Blup.

That island is also now being evacuated.

The Australian government is providing shelter tarpaulins and water containers to the evacuees and is on stand-by to provide further assistance if requested.
