Australia leads world in vegan interest

Australia has beaten Canada, the United States and last year's leader, Germany, for the highest percentage of Google searches for the word "vegan".

More people in Australia are looking up the word "vegan" online than any other country in the world, according to data on what people search on Google.

Australia has beaten Canada, the United States and last year's leader, Germany, for the highest percentage of Google searches for the word vegan, with interest in the diet doubling compared to 12 months ago.

The Google Trends analysis shows interest in vegan diets has increased steadily since January, with "vegan recipes" and "vegan chocolate" among some of the most searched terms.
