The Australian government has pledged fresh funds for the Red Cross to address humanitarian crises and protect those affected by conflict in the international community.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop announced the provision of $110 million over four years on Thursday to complement a more than 40-year partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

"Our support will focus particularly on the needs of women and girls, and people with disabilities," the foreign minister said in a statement.
