A horrific video showing gun-toting Papua New Guinea police viciously beating a naked boy will be raised at a high level meeting with Australia's foreign minister.
The graphic video, which was posted online, shows two armed officers whipping the boy and kicking him in the head as he pleads for mercy.
Police Commissioner Gari Baki told the PNG Post Courier he has ordered a full investigation.
"My stand on police brutality continues to be disregarded by a few officers and I will not hesitate to come down hard on officers who are not protecting and serving the people," he told the newspaper on Wednesday.
Australia's Foreign Minister Julie Bishop promised to raise the incident with PNG's Foreign Affairs Minister Rimbink Pato during a Wednesday afternoon meeting in Sydney.
"The success of our aid program and of our (Australian Federal Police) program should not be judged on one incident," Ms Bishop told reporters.
"I will raise this particular issue with him to get PNG's perspective. But of course it's important that Australia continues to support PNG, they are our closest neighbour.
"I will find out the details of this incident but it does indicate that Australia should continue to maintain a presence there, assisting, advising, supporting the PNG police and PNG government."
The Post Courier reports the beating was filmed in late July in Kimbe, West New Britain Province, before being posted on social media.
