Australia reacts to Paris climate plan

There is widespread relief that a climate change deal has been struck in Paris, although some question whether Australia is up to its commitment.

WHAT KEY AUSTRALIANS THINK OF UN CLIMATE DEAL

"Australia worked constructively with other nations to secure an ambitious, effective and enduring outcome, which for the first time requires all countries to take action to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions." - Foreign Minister Julie Bishop

"This agreement marks a turning point in tackling pollution and shows a level of ambition we have not previously seen. Now is the time for Malcolm Turnbull to step up and dump his party's continuing support for Tony Abbott's direct action fraud." - Opposition Leader Bill Shorten and Labor environment spokesman Mark Butler

"Now we know so much is at stake and here in Australia we've got so much to lose by

continuing to have our head in the sand on global warming." - Acting Greens leader Larissa Waters

"We applaud the efforts of negotiators from all countries in producing a pragmatic outcome that addresses the needs of all nations." - Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Kate Carnell

"Australia now needs to step up, transition from a rampant polluter to a modern clean energy economy, provide far greater support to poorer countries to tackle climate change and build a resilient, sustainable future." - Oxfam Australia chief executive Helen Szoke

"Australia's domestic actions now need to match these fine outcomes and aspirations in Paris." - Climate Institute chief executive John Connor
