The final hurdle has been cleared for Australia to formally ratify the Paris climate change agreement.

A parliamentary committee into treaties on Monday recommended the country join more than half of the world's emitters that had already ratified the deal.

The agreement, adopted by 192 countries last December, came into effect on Friday.
