Australia the top 'Chuppie' destination

The tourism industry says China and India's prospering middle classes mean plenty of demand for Australian holidays, and the trend is growing.

Tourism Australia boss Andrew McEvoy says so-called Chuppies, middle-class Chinese yuppies with an appetite for travel, rank Australia as their number one destination.

More than half the travellers surveyed from mainland China say they intend to travel to Australia over the next two years.

Their top three priorities are natural scenery, sunshine and beaches, and new places.

Already the business is worth 2.3-billion dollars a year, and it's estimated that will double over the next six to eight years.
