Australia to face Pakistan in T20 opener

Australia will look to claim their fourth title from the last five World T20 tournaments when it is played in the West Indies this November.

The Australian women's cricket team will start November's World Twenty20 tournament with a game against Pakistan as they look to reclaim the title they ceded to West Indies in 2016.

The International Cricket Council announced the schedule for the tournament to be hosted by the title holders from November 9-24 on Monday.

The 10-team tournament features three-time champions Australia, reigning ICC Women's World Cup winners England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and defending champions the Windies, plus two qualifiers.

It will be played across three venues in the Caribbean.

Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and a qualifier will be in Group B.

Defending champions the West Indies are in Group A along with England, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the other qualifier.

The event starts at the Guyana National Stadium, with India and New Zealand playing on November 10. The Australia-Pakistan match follows.

"It's the next big tournament on the horizon and we have a good chance to nail down our T20 game-plan and focus," Australia captain Meg Lanning said.

"The World Cup (in 2016) did not go as well as we would have liked to, so we are very hungry to become world champions again."

Australia had won the 2010, 2012 and 2014 editions of the tournament but were beaten by eight wickets by the West Indies in the Kolkata decider two years ago.
